Cristina Ataíde

Born in Viseu, 1951. Lives and works in Lisbon. Graduate Degree in Sculpture from ESBAL, Lisbon, where she also attended the Equipment Design Course. Production director of Sculpture and Design at Made In (Alenquer, Portugal), from 1987 to 1996, where she worked with Anish Kapoor, Michelangelo Pistolleto, Keit Sonnier, Matt Mullican, among others. Guest Teacher at the Lusófona University (Lisbon), from 1997 until 2012. Concerns about nature are one of the constants in Ataíde’s work. The denouncement of ecological crimes, the preservation of nature, and in her last years, the problematics about the refugees, are consistent personal and artistic preoccupations. Exhibiting regularly since 1984, her work is often developed during the artist’s travels, transitioning between sculpture and drawing or through photography and video. Cristina Ataíde is represented by the Galleries: Belo-Galsterer, Lisbon; Magda Bellotti, Madrid; Andrea Rehder, Contemporary Art, São Paulo; Ybakatu, Curitiba, Brazil and The Shed Space, Brooklyn, NYC.
